Car Brakes - Stanway

If your brakes are squealing, grinding, or feeling different under your foot, get them checked as soon as you can.

At All Trans Autos, we inspect, repair, and replace brake pads, discs, callipers, and fluid on cars, vans, and commercial vehicles, and we’ll show you exactly what we’ve found before any work begins.

Signs your brakes need attention

Brakes rarely fail without giving you some warning first. The most common clues are:

  • a high-pitched squeal when you brake, which is often the wear indicator on the pads
  • a grinding or scraping noise, which usually means the pads are worn down to the metal backing
  • vibration through the pedal or steering wheel as you slow down, often caused by unevenly worn discs
  • the car pulling to one side under braking, which can point to a sticking calliper
  • a soft or spongy pedal that travels further than usual
  • a brake warning light on the dashboard

Longer stopping distances are another sign, and because brake wear happens gradually, it’s easy to get used to the change without noticing it.

What our brake check covers

We start by removing the wheels and measuring your pads and discs against the manufacturer’s minimum limits. We also look at the callipers, brake pipes, and hoses for leaks, corrosion, or damage, and test the condition of the brake fluid.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and can make the pedal feel spongy after heavy use. Many manufacturers recommend changing it every two years, although this varies, so we’ll check what your vehicle’s schedule says.

When the check is finished, you’ll receive photos of the parts we’ve inspected and a clear explanation of what needs replacing. If your pads still have plenty of life in them, we’ll tell you.

Brake work we carry out

  • Front and rear brake pad replacement
  • Brake disc replacement, usually alongside new pads
  • Caliper repair or replacement, including seized sliders and pistons
  • Brake fluid changes
  • Brake hose and pipe replacement
  • Handbrake adjustment and electronic parking brake repairs

Many newer cars have an electronic parking brake, and the rear calipers must be put into a service mode before the pads can be changed. Our dealer-level diagnostic equipment lets us do this properly and reset any brake warning lights once the work is complete.

Brakes on vans & heavier vehicles

Vans, minibuses, and motorhomes work their brakes harder than most cars, especially when they’re fully loaded. With ramps rated to 5.5 tonnes and another that lifts up to 26 tonnes, we can carry out brake work on vehicles that smaller workshops can’t get off the ground.

Parts & guarantees

We fit parts of original equipment quality, using genuine manufacturer parts where a vehicle requires them. Parts are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, and our labour is guaranteed for 12 months.
